Default Trip to Henderson and St. George via Colt

The wife and I decided to take the Colt for our Thanksgiving week trip to see family in Henderson, NV and St. George, UT. From the Sacramento area we flew south towards Bakersfield and stopped for gas and food at KWJF (Fox Field) near Edwards AFB, then on to Henderson. Thanks to a late start we landed just after dark. Two days later we flew up to St. George, stayed a few days, then flew home via L45 (Bakersfield Muni) in one day. Fun trip, and the Colt ran flawlessly. Well, not completely flawlessly, the attitude gyro died as did the nav light switch. Oh well, we'll get those fixed.

    Anyway, here's some pics.

Great photos Kurt! Thanks for sharing, I'm dreaming of making a trip out that way to get my own photos like that.

Not Much one can add after seeing your photos; perhaps only the word EPIC!

And here I am, shoveling snow one day, freezing rain the next.....,

    Thanks Kurts,
After having moved from out West 39 years ago to the East I had forgotten how open and empty it is in many parts. Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks for the kind words, it was a fun trip in a fun airplane. Could have saved some gas money if we'd driven, but the trip would have taken twice as long.

Today, the dead attitude gyro got shipped off to Keystone Instruments. When I talked to them today I was told one of these AN gyros should last 10 yrs between overhauls. The sticker I found on mine said it was last done in 1972!

Well, normally not that close I don't believe, it is in a restricted area but Joshua Approach said the area was only hot from 6000 ft and below and said I could fly through if I wanted a short cut. So I took advantage of it!

And Andya, we drove through Hurricane on our way to Zion Natl Park!
