    Default Prop size.

Looking for info about what size of metal prop would give the best performance for a PA 17 Vag with an 0 200 cont. At the moment i am using a McCauley 69x48 metal prop and i am thinking that a 72x 40 or 72x 42 might be better. Any idea's?

I know this is a very old thread, but wanted to post about the propeller/engine combination on my Vag

    Using a M 71/46 on a C-85 in a PA-17 Vagabond. Timed climb for a minute @ 65MPH other day at 1000lbs (1150Gross) 80F from 1100 to 2000MSL, about 900FPM. Approximate speeds, 2100RPM 80MPH, 2200RPM 85MPH, 2300RPM 90MPH.

Legally.i.a.w. FARs the only prop certified for an O200 is the Sensenich 69CK or the McCaulley 1A100 69 inch prop. No other longer propeller is LEGAL on an O200 unless you have an STC/field approval for the installation. Even the new American Camp 7EC LSA bird only had a 69" prop because no one wanted to due the certification paperwork. Now a DER can approve what you want-of course he will expect payment for his services.
I have a Sensenich W72GK48 wood prop on my C85-12 Vag with DER/337 alteration approval. Just because someone else has it on his bird does not make it legal on yours-food for thought.
Now if you are an experimental Wagabond-do what you want.
