Has anyone out there done an engine upgrade on a Vagabond?
I would like some info on maybe an 0 200 engine swap.

Not an actual Vagabond, but I had an 0-235 in a Vagabond wannabe (Protech PT2) it was a good engine/airframe comination.

Don of Don's Dream Machines was able to get the FAA approval to install his C-85 with 0-200 crankshaft, rods, and pistons in my Vagabond. It made a big difference in takeoff and climb performance, with a small improvement in cruise speed. The engine runs much more smoothly than my old engine too. I can recommend the upgrade.

What kind of climb rate can you achieve? I have an A75 and i do 500 ft per min for the first 3000 ft at sea level. Would the climb rate be that much better?

Three timed climbs from 1000' MSL to 3000' MSL took two minutes. Take-off from my 500' MSL field elevation to 5000' MSL took 5 minutes.
Cruise performance only increased 4 or 5 MPH.

If we are talking experimental here. I bought a Colt fusalege and a Chev Corvair engine. I hope to one day build my own airplane based on the Wagabond drawings. If you go to the Corvair engine web site you can read a story about a similar airplane.

It topped out at only 95 -100 mph but it jumped off the ground in about 300'. It was a fun little machine and was actually much more docile than our shortwings on the ground. I had a real come-uppance when I flew my first Pacer after flying the Protech for a couple of years.

Guess i should have re read your earlier reply. What was the hp rating of your engine?was it 100 hp or was it the 115 hp C85 stroker?
