Jeff Smith hi.. i'm just in the process of completing the purchase of a PA17 Piper Vagabnd. like many Vagabonds this aircraft has the standard front fuselage tank, and an auxiliary wing tank. the present owner says that the wink tank (only 5 gallons) is used to take off and land, and the main fuselage tank is used in normal level flight. although i've never owned a Vagabond before i feel the present owner is operating the tanks incorrectly, and should be using the main tank for take off & landing, and selecting the auxiliary tank for additional range in level flight. I'm hoping someone can put me right on this before I collect the aircraft for the 200 mile trip home, Thanks Jeff Smith
